Sierra stands 15hh, and is 13 years old.
This is such a rounded mare. On the ground, she is well mannered. You’d think she’s just one of the geldings! Easy to catch, bathe, tack up etc. Great in the stall and easy to catch out in the bigger pasture as well. She enjoys being pampered and groomed and petted, and she is one of the few and far between mares that you can actually form a bond with.
Sierra has been trail ridden in some pretty extreme conditions, and she keeps her cool like the pro she is. We’ve gotten off on some scary, very rough terrain, and she just gingerly picks her way along as steady as can be, even with her rider half scared to death! I love how she handles even the most narrow little goat trail with ease. River crossings, steep banks, slippery mud, fallen logs, are no bother at all to this veteran trail horse. She can safely navigate a minefield of obstacles and never bat an eye. In a group, she is happy to take up the rear, fall in the middle or step up and be the fearless leader. We have taken her overnight horse camping, used her to move cattle, build trails, on inexperienced group rides, and lots of other various riding, she’s been fantastic for everything we’ve thrown at her.
She has been my go-to trail horse for quite some time. It really makes things nice to have a mare that you know you can count on through thick and thin.
Another one of my favorite things about her, is her incredibly smooth gaits. Her trot is like glass, and she will drop her head, collect if you ask and quietly tiptoe along. Her lope is floaty and comfortable. She has a nice slow spin. Leg yields, side step, big stop and reverse. Sierra is very well trained and it shows in her beautiful and responsive movement. She is user friendly if you want, but she has enough buttons for someone experienced to really have fun with. She has a perfect little jog, or you can move her up into a working trot. This gal is fancy no matter what you are doing!
I think she would excel in ranch pleasure, or ranch classes aside from being steadfast trail boss. She has successfully raised two healthy foals, and should yMeet Sierra!
