Storm is a 3 yr old Dark dappled gray Percheron Quarter Horse cross mare. She stands 16 hands tall and is a perfect drafty size that can carry a bigger rider, but is comfortable enough for a shorter rider like me. She knows the pick me up cue so she’ll come over to any object you are on to pick you up. She also has some experience in the driving field as well. She was started driving and has been hitched and driven in a team as well, but we unfortunately do not have a teammate for her so we just ride her currently.
She has a lot of experience already she’s very easy to get along with. She’s easy to catch, gets along out in the pasture, stands for tacking, mounting, and the Ferrier. And your Ferrier will love her because she stands patiently for me to do her feet and I take a lot longer so she has excellent ground manners.
She’s great out on the trails NOT easily spooked. She’s had deer and turkeys cross her patch and she does fine with it all. She’ll cross bridges, creeks, muck, and even goes in the river for some play time. She’s more WHOA than go can be a little on the lazy side, but she will pick up and move out when you ask. She pops right into a canter off of a walk. Has an excellent stop off of your seat.
She has been worked in an arena so she is comfortable with arena work, but lately we have mainly trail ridden her. So she’s been getting lots of trail miles. But she does know how to move her shoulders or hindquarters off of your leg. And will take both of her leads in the arena. She has a nice soft rocking chair lope that’s easy to sit to. She has a slower trot that is easy to sit or post.
We have mostly ridden her out on the trails or quiet country roads and she’s fine with the traffic. We have had cars, trucks, and even some side by sides go by and she doesn’t care about it. The only traffic I would say she might not like would be BIG trucks like dump trucks or garbage trucks, but she really hasn’t been exposed to a lot of that heavier big traffic. So when I do have a big truck like a garbage truck go by she will look at it, but that’s it. So she’s great with light traffic hasn’t seen a lot of heavy traffic.
She has had a lot of experience and miles for her age and is a safe mare that’s easy to get along with as long as you know what you are doing. She has had the right start and right training and can continue into any direction you want to take her. She always has the same personality laid back, calm, and quiet. NO bad habits or vices. Loads in the trailer and hauls quietly. Leaves home alone and can separate out on the trail. Fly sprays and hoses down.
I really don’t have anything bad to say about this mare’s personality she is a sweetheart and she’s very easy on the eyes as well she’s always easy to catch even if she’s getting worked she’ll still let you catch her out in the pasture. She is current on shots, wormings, Ferrier, vet, Coggins, and all set to go. There is only one thing I do want to call on her she does have a small scar on very front corner of her left eye. Not sure how it happened she got it out in the pasture somehow. It has never bothered her or affected her vision and it’s in the very front low corner of her eye. We did have the vet look at it to confirm it wasn’t anything to be concerned about. And according to the vet it’s just an old scar it could fade a little over time or it may just stay there. So that is the only fault that this mare has and it doesn’t even affect her. Her vet report will be attached so you can take a look at that we also had a lameness check done at the same time and that was all good.
